The engine uses JavaScript native RegExp: the global flag is always on, a captured group is available as $1 in the replacement, and each rule becomes a link in a chain applied in order over the text.
The second capture group, (\d+), holds only the digits; $2 in the replacement returns that piece, discarding the "ID" prefix the first group captured.
Two matches replaced, "cafezinho" stayed untouched: the word-boundary class stops the pattern from matching inside another word, even with the accent ignored in the search.
Without the s flag, the dot does not cross a line break and the pattern would find nothing between "inicio" and "fim" on separate lines; with s on, it covers both line breaks in between.
Rules run top to bottom, and each one receives the text already modified by the previous ones. A rule turning A into B followed by one turning B into C carries A all the way to C; in the reverse order the result stops at B. Use the arrows to reorder and the switch to disable a rule without deleting it. Each rule counter shows the occurrences in the text that rule actually receives.
g is always on, i is on by default unless you check case-sensitive, m also starts on for every new rule, and s is optional. The engine underneath is JavaScript native RegExp, with no external regex library.
Write $1, $2 and so on following the order of the parentheses in the pattern, or $<name> for a named group written as (?<name>...). $& returns the whole matched chunk and $$ writes a literal dollar sign in the output.
Because JavaScript's \b treats accented letters as word separators, so "mar" with whole word would match inside "março". The tool uses its own class that includes accented Latin letters, Greek and Cyrillic to avoid that false positive.
