next meteor shower
Some shower is nearly always active, but few are worth a night awake. This page shows how to read the activity windows and what sequence of peaks follows November 2026.
Next peak: Southern Taurids, November 5.
The eve of the Perseid peak.
The Northern Taurids ended on December 10.
Sporadic meteors only.
Activity began on December 28.
The top of the tool always shows the next one. In the 2026 calendar, after November 2 come the Southern Taurids (November 5) and Northern Taurids (November 12), the Leonids (November 17 at 23:52 UT, with the Moon at 55%), the Geminids (December 14 at 13:49 UT), the Ursids (December 22 at 22:17 UT) and, in 2027, the Quadrantids (January 4 at 03:34 UT).
Compare the date with the activity windows: if it falls inside one, that shower is active. The top of the tool lists the ones active now and highlights the next, with its peak and the Moon. Away from the peak, rates are far below the ZHR.
In order: Taurids (November 5 and 12), Leonids (November 17), Geminids (December 14), Ursids (December 22) and Quadrantids (January 4, 2027). The strongest is the Geminids.
No, but they are linked. Most showers come from dust left by a comet: the Perseids from 109P/Swift-Tuttle, the Leonids from 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, the Taurids from 2P/Encke. The Geminids come from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.
