22 awg diameter in mm
In electronics, thin wires such as 22 AWG and 24 AWG show up in jumpers, sensor cables and coils. Anyone who needs the diameter in millimeters, to choose a connector, a hole or a ferrule, wants the bare copper figure. The tool opens at 22 AWG and shows a 0.644 mm diameter, 0.326 mm² cross-section and resistance per meter, and also converts the other way.
0.326 mm² and 52.96 Ω/km.
0.518 mm² and 33.31 Ω/km.
0.205 mm² and 84.22 Ω/km.
0.129 mm² and about 134 Ω/km.
0.081 mm² and about 213 Ω/km.
0.0509 mm² and 338.6 Ω/km.
12 AWG has a cross-section of 3.31 mm² and a diameter of 2.053 mm. Copper resistance is about 5.21 Ω per kilometer at 20 °C.
0.644 mm of bare copper, or 0.0253 in. The cross-section is 0.326 mm². With the insulating jacket the cable is thicker.
Thicker. A lower number is a thicker wire: 22 AWG is 0.644 mm and 24 AWG is 0.511 mm. The area of 22 is about 1.6 times that of 24.
Measure the copper's diameter, bare, with calipers and type it into the diameter tab. The result shows the exact AWG and the nearest whole gauge.
About 0.53 Ω in copper at 20 °C, for one conductor only. In a round-trip circuit with two conductors, it is about 1.06 Ω.
AWG and metric sizes are different scales: there is no exact equivalence. For installation cable, your project's cross-section and code are what count.
The math runs in your browser; no value is sent to a server. The tool does not give current capacity (ampacity), which depends on the code and the installation.
