Honest compression that analyzes before it promises

Compressing a PDF in the browser, without relying on Ghostscript or a server, works by resampling the embedded images at a lower resolution and quality and stripping metadata. That shrinks a scanned or photo-heavy PDF a lot, but it makes a plain-text PDF (a contract, an article, an exported spreadsheet) worse, because the only way to compress without those server-side tools is to turn every page into an image, which destroys text selection, search and accessibility, and can still end up larger than the original. That is why this tool analyzes the document before anything else: it counts how many pages carry a meaningful amount of extracted text, classifies the PDF as mostly image, mixed, or mostly vector text, and warns you when compression is unlikely to pay off. For text-heavy PDFs, there is still a safe path that rasterizes nothing at all: stripping metadata, attachments and embedded thumbnails, which also runs entirely in your browser.

From file to smaller PDF in three steps
