convert gif to png
The tool opens with PNG output and GIF as the expected source. For an animated GIF the PNG comes out as a still image: see below what that means and how to keep the animation.
One frame in RGBA, 4 bytes per pixel.
128 × 128 × 4 = 65,536, exactly 64 KiB.
The 468 by 60 pixel banner format.
Nearly 2 MB per decoded frame, which is why big GIFs weigh on memory.
The classic tracking pixel, one RGBA pixel.
Transparency is filled with white, because the JPEG format does not support an alpha channel. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG or WebP. The tool automatically warns you when this situation occurs.
No. The output is a still image. To keep animation, use an animated format such as animated WebP, APNG or MP4.
Yes. The transparent pixels of the GIF stay transparent in the PNG. The edge stays jagged, because GIF has no partial transparency.
GIF stores a palette index per pixel, and the output PNG stores full color. For a simple drawing the PNG can still stay small; for a photo it almost always grows.

AVIF (not supported)
Converting a 6000px image without resizing is the classic mistake: the format changes but the file stays huge.
