Draw a card, pick the topic (general, love or work) and read the text of the card that came up, shown with its 1799 image. This page gathers what is worth knowing first: how the deck is numbered, what the printed suit means and where schools part ways.
News, arrival, movement and speed.
Home, family, base and security.
Money, abundance, business and flow.
Burden, destiny, trial and faith.

Mostly yes: baralho cigano is the popular Brazilian name for the 36-card Petit Lenormand, with the same numbering and the same pictures. Brazil also has its own school, which grew out of contact with African-matrix religions and reinterpreted some cards: the Clover (2), for example, appears in some materials as Obstacles, and Crossroads (22) as a long road rather than a fork. This tool follows the classic European reading and uses the Portuguese names most common in Brazil.
It has 36 cards, numbered 1 to 36, which sets it apart from the tarot, which has 78. The 36-card version is called the Petit Lenormand, in contrast with the Grand Jeu de Lenormand, another cartomancy deck tied to the same name.
No. Unlike the tarot, the meaning does not change when a card lands upside down. The tool does not even draw reversed cards: what modifies a card is its neighbor, its position in the spread and, on the Grand Tableau, its distance from the significator.
Because the deck was born from a board game whose cards could also serve ordinary card games. The original German deck uses Hearts, Hawkbells, Leaves and Acorns, which match Hearts, Diamonds, Spades and Clubs.
The most used convention reads left to right, with the first card as the subject and the second as its qualifier. In a 9-card spread, start with the topic, the center card.
