Build formatted JSON text and generate /tellraw, /title and actionbar commands
Commands like /tellraw and /title display formatted text using JSON text components, a powerful structure, but tedious to write by hand, with quotes, braces and property names. This tool lets you write the text simply, using color and formatting codes with the & character, and converts everything automatically into the correct JSON. The 16 classic colors become names (like "gold" and "aqua"), and hex colors become hex values. You see the result in a faithful preview and choose between sending it as a chat message (/tellraw), a large on-screen title (/title), a subtitle or an actionbar, for any target (@a, @p, @s, @e, @r). For chat, you can also make the text clickable (open a link, run or suggest a command, copy something to the clipboard) and show a tooltip on hover, in the right format for your server's version. At the end, copy the whole command or just the JSON component to reuse in books, signs, datapacks and other commands.
You write with & codes (as in chat), and the tool turns each colored run into a JSON object with properties like "text", "color", "bold" and "italic". If the text has a single style, the result is a plain object; if it has several runs, it becomes an array that starts with an empty string "". That leading "" keeps the first run's formatting from cascading into the others, a detail that avoids styling bugs in-game.
The 16 classic colors are converted to their vanilla names (for example, &6 becomes "gold" and &b becomes "aqua"), which keeps the JSON readable. Hex colors (from 1.16 on) go in as values like "#FF8800". The final command combines the chosen target with that JSON.
Example 1, a chat warning for everyone: writing "&6&lNotice: &rmaintenance at 8pm" in the editor and choosing /tellraw @a, the output is /tellraw @a ["",{"text":"Notice: ","color":"gold","bold":true},{"text":"maintenance at 8pm"}]. The &r resets the style before the second part, which stays non-bold.
Example 2, a colored title for the nearest player: writing "&#ff8800Welcome" and choosing /title @p title, the output is /title @p title {"text":"Welcome","color":"#FF8800"}. Since there is a single style, the JSON is a plain object, and the hex color appears directly.
The JSON component is not just for /tellraw: you can paste it into the text of books and signs, into item names, into other commands like /title and inside datapacks and functions. That is why the tool offers a copy of just the JSON, separate from the full command.
The commands follow Java Edition. Named hex colors require 1.16 or later; on earlier versions, use only the 16 classic colors. Keep in mind that the exact syntax of some arguments can vary between versions, so test in the world where you will use it.
Beyond color and formatting, a text component can react to clicks (clickEvent) and show a tooltip on hover (hoverEvent), the feature behind chat messages with buttons and clickable links. The most common click actions are opening a link, running or suggesting a command (filling the chat bar) and copying text to the clipboard. This tool offers all four for the /tellraw command.
The name of these fields changed in Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.5: clickEvent became click_event and hoverEvent became hover_event, and each click action got its own field name (for example, run_command uses "command" instead of "value"). That is why the tool has a format switch, pick "Current" for 1.21.5 or newer servers, and "Older" for earlier ones.
