Minecraft skin viewer and download by username

Look up the name in the Lookup tab: the skin appears from the front and back, along with an enlarged head and the cape when there is one. The buttons download the original skin PNG, the head as PNG or the cape.

Where the image comes from and how it is drawn

The player's profile carries a textures property: base64 JSON with the skin URL and, if any, the cape URL. The files live at textures.minecraft.net/texture/ followed by a long hash; the tool only accepts hexadecimal hashes and always builds the URL with that fixed host. The metadata tells the model: only the slim skin carries a model equal to slim, and a missing field means the classic model. An account without a custom skin has no such block, and the game uses Steve or Alex.
A modern skin is a 64x64 pixel PNG, or 128x128 and other multiples in HD versions. The front of the head is the 8x8 square starting at (8, 8); the outer layer of the head (the hat) is at (40, 8). The torso takes 8x12 from (20, 20). In the classic model the arm is 4 pixels wide; in slim, 3. Old 64x32 skins have no left arm and leg: the game mirrors them from the right ones, and the tool does the same conversion before drawing.
The back view uses the rear face of each part, and the arms swap sides: from the front, the player's right arm is on the viewer's left; from the back, the left one is. The Outer layer switch turns hat, jacket, sleeves and pants on and off, which helps see the base design and edit it. The inner layer is treated as opaque, as in the game, so transparent pixels there show up black. The download delivers the original image, without recompression, and the head comes out at 512x512, ready for an avatar.
The cape is a 64x32 PNG (or an HD scale); the tool crops the face you see from behind, a 10x16 rectangle starting at (1, 1). Any player's skin and cape are public, because the game must download them to display them. Still, a skin can be an artist's work: use it as a reference, ask permission and give credit. The image is loaded straight from textures.minecraft.net in your browser, without going through our server.

How do I find a Minecraft player's UUID from their username?

Type the username in the Lookup tab. The tool asks the Mojang API and shows the UUID with dashes (069a79f4-44e9-4726-a5be-fca90e38aaf5 for Notch), without dashes and as the NBT int array. The lookup is case-insensitive and the result carries the official capitalization. The name must exist today: old names that the player has since changed do not resolve.

The badge above the image shows the model, read from Mojang's metadata: classic (4 px arm, Steve) or slim (3 px arm, Alex). The color or design of the skin does not decide this, only the model field.

Why did the skin download open another tab?

Some browsers or extensions block the direct image download. In that case the tool opens the PNG in another tab so you can save it with a right click.

Can I view a skin that does not belong to an account?

Not in this tool: it starts from a real Mojang username or UUID and only loads textures from the official host. To test a file of your own, use the game's skin editor or the site you use.
