Does blueprint work well in light mode or only in dark mode?
The palette was born dark, tied to cyanotype printing, so it works best over a deep blue background; adapting it to light mode usually means inverting to dark lines over a light background, which changes the visual reference and stops reading as classic blueprint.
How many grid lines fit before it turns into visual clutter?
It depends on the available space, but the goal is for the grid to serve as a subtle reference, not the main character; if the eye recognizes each line individually before the content on top, the spacing is too tight.
Does the noise need to match the blue background in color?
It does not need to match tonally: monochrome noise at low opacity disappears into the blue background either way, because the blend mode already handles mixing the colors without requiring the grain to start out colored.
Does this texture suit non technical content too?
It works best when the content already carries technical vocabulary, like documentation, a changelog or a system panel; using blueprint behind institutional or editorial content tends to create a mismatch between the engineering aesthetic and the tone of the text.
