100 kg without collars
- Input
- 100 kg, barra 20 kg
- Expected output
- 40 por lado: 25 + 15
(100 - 20) / 2 = 40. Two plates per side, four on the bar. 20 + 20 also works, but the tool prefers the heaviest.
how many plates per side for X kg
The math is always the same: remove the bar weight, halve it and build that number with the fewest discs. The chart below was calculated with the tool's algorithm using 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5 and 1.25 kg discs, and the calculator does the same with your real stock.
(100 - 20) / 2 = 40. Two plates per side, four on the bar. 20 + 20 also works, but the tool prefers the heaviest.
At 180 kg, 25 + 25 + 20 + 10 also adds to 80 with four plates; the preference for the heaviest picks 25 + 25 + 25 + 5.
Bar plus collars weigh 25 kg; 75 kg of plates remain, or 37.5 per side.
Subtract the bar (and collars, if you use them) from the total weight and divide by two. For 100 kg with a 20 kg bar: (100 - 20) / 2 = 40 kg per side, which can be one 25 and one 15.
With a 20 kg bar and no collars, 90 kg per side: three 25 kg plates and one 15 kg on each side, so six 25s and two 15s in total.
Remove the 25 plate from the stock in the tool and it rebuilds the weight from what remains, using more 20, 15 or 10 discs. If the weight becomes impossible, it shows the closest one below and above.
The per-side numbers change: subtract 15 instead of 20. For 60 kg, (60 - 15) / 2 = 22.5 per side, which is 20 + 2.5. Pick Olympic women in the tool.
Exact calculation: the fewest plates that reach the weight with your stock, preferring the heaviest next to the center. It is not the greedy method, so it still works when a plate is missing.
Always check the real bar and plates: gym bars and plates can vary and may not be calibrated. Secure plates with collars and use safety support on heavy lifts.
How many plates of each size you have for each side of the bar. With the current stock you can load up to 416.5 kg of plates in total.
Your stock defines what is possible: with few plates of one size, the result uses other combinations. The stock is included in the shareable link.
