5% and then 3% on R$ 3,000
- Input
- R$ 3.000, +5%, +3%
- Expected output
- 8,15% acumulado, R$ 3.244,50
The plain sum would give 8% and R$ 3,240: a R$ 4.50 monthly difference.
successive salary raises compound percentage
When there are two or more raises in the same period, each one applies to the already raised salary. The calculator below lists the percentages, shows the salary after each, the compound total against the plain sum and, if you give the month, the total received over 12 months.
The plain sum would give 8% and R$ 3,240: a R$ 4.50 monthly difference.
The geometric mean is 10% per raise; the plain sum (30%) underestimates by 3.1 points.
Rising and falling by the same percentage never gets you back to the start.
Four months at R$ 3,000, five at R$ 3,135 and three at R$ 3,229.05.
Multiply the salary by 1 plus the percentage divided by 100. For R$ 3,000 with 5%: 3,000 x 1.05 = R$ 3,150, a difference of R$ 150 per month. For a cut, use a negative percentage: R$ 5,000 with -10% gives R$ 4,500.
Only as an approximation, and only with small percentages. The correct way is multiplying the factors: (1 + p1) x (1 + p2) - 1. With 5% and 3% that is 8.15%, not 8%.
Use the geometric mean: raise the accumulated factor to 1 divided by the number of raises and subtract 1. For 5% and 3%, the square root of 1.0815 is 1.03995, about 3.995% per raise, slightly below the plain average of 4%.
Yes. The final salary is the same, but the later the raise, the fewer months you receive the new amount. Enter the month of each raise in the calculator to see the total received over 12 months.
Enter your current salary and the raise percentage (or a cut, with a minus sign). You get the new salary, the yearly effect including the 13th-month pay and vacation bonus, and the hourly rate.
R$3,000.00 x 1.05 = R$3,150.00
