Light person
- Input
- 50 kg
- Expected output
- 8.3 kg
50 × 0.166 = 8.3.
how much would i weigh on the moon
Type your weight in the top field and look at the Moon card. The math is a single step: your Earth weight times 0.166, the lunar gravity ratio published by NASA. Switch kg to lb if your scale reads pounds.
50 × 0.166 = 8.3.
70 × 0.166 = 11.62.
90 × 0.166 = 14.94.
The lunar ratio in kg per 100.
The same ratio works in any unit.
Mass is the amount of matter in a body and does not change from place to place. Weight is the force of gravity on that mass: W = m × g. When someone says they weigh 70 kg, that number is mass, read on a scale calibrated for Earth gravity. On the Moon the same person still has 70 kg of mass, but the scale would read about 11.6 kg.
An object with 1 kg of mass would read 0.166 kg on a Moon scale, or 166 g. The mass stays 1 kg, it is the weight that shrinks.
The 0.166 figure comes from the surface gravity in the NASA table, taken at the equator. Small local variations exist because of terrain and density, but they are far from changing the result at the first decimal place.
The calculator only shows weight. Space medicine studies treat bone and muscle loss in low gravity as a real risk, but that question is outside what the tool computes.

What changes from one body to another is weight (the pull of gravity on you). Your mass, the amount of matter in your body, is the same everywhere. The kg and lb values show what a scale would read.
Source: NASA Planetary Fact Sheet. For the gas giants, gravity is given at the 1 bar level of the atmosphere, not on a solid surface. The Moon orbits the Sun together with Earth, so its age equals the Earth age. The jump assumes the same takeoff speed and ignores clothing, air and posture.
