It is how energy is distributed across frequencies. White has equal power in every hertz and sounds hissy and bright. Pink falls 3.01 dB per octave and has equal energy in every octave, sounding more balanced, like steady heavy rain. Brown falls 6.02 dB per octave and sounds deep and muffled, like a distant waterfall. The chart in the tool shows these lines live.
No, WAV only. For noise, lossy compression gets in the way: it discards parts of the spectrum and changes the slope of the color. If you need MP3, convert the WAV with an audio converter.
No. The file is generated continuously, with the filters keeping their state from one block to the next, and it starts with a fade in. It is not a short stretch repeated.
The noise is truly computed, sample by sample, on your device. An hour in stereo has over 317 million samples counting both channels. A progress bar shows the advance and the Cancel button stops the generation.
