Divide width and height by their greatest common divisor. For 1920x1080 the divisor is 120 and the ratio is 16:9. The decimal, 1.7778, is width divided by height.
Find the aspect ratio of any size, resize while keeping it, and fit content into a box with bars or a crop.
Aspect ratio is width divided by height, reduced by the greatest common divisor: 1920x1080 becomes 16:9. Different sizes can share a ratio, which is why resizing while keeping the ratio avoids stretched images. Resolutions such as 1366x768 do not reduce exactly to 16:9 (the exact ratio is 683:384), so the tool shows the marketing name as approximate. In Fit mode, content of one ratio in a box of another produces bars (letterbox top and bottom, pillarbox on the sides) or, if you prefer to fill, a crop that the tool measures in pixels and as a share of the area.
