fantasy race names
This page is about individual character names with race-locked phonology, not about naming the race itself: 9 peoples, each with its own dedicated first-name bank and, for 6 of them, an optional surname or clan.
A first name from a 204-entry bank (female here) plus a Clan from a separate 40-option bank; no surname enters, elf is one of the 6 races that uses first name only.
A name from a 241-entry bank (60% chance of rolling male, the only race with that skew) plus a Clan from 51 options, here with the 'Clan' word appended after the name instead of before it.
A first name from 206 options (male) plus a Clan from 59 options; the dwarven clan bank is the largest of the 9 races, ahead of orc (51) and dragonborn (42) in group-surname variety.
The phonological patterns are inspired by the fantasy tradition, including the spirit of D&D elvish languages, but are original and don't reproduce protected content.
An individual character: every result is a single personal name with phonology locked to one of the 9 races, not a collective name for the people or the species; to give a group world-building weight, use the separate clan/house/guild field, which swaps banks depending on the race chosen.
Because only those 3 races pair a first name with a dedicated surname bank (113, 60 and 60 options respectively); the other 6 races in the engine (elf, dwarf, orc, tiefling, dragonborn, undead) use a single name, and their group identity comes from the optional clan field instead of a fixed second name.
It is one of 3 branches in the tiefling generator: 40% of the time it stands alone, drawn from a 90-word bank of abstract concepts (Ambition, Malice, Torment, Zealotry) that echoes the D&D tradition of naming a tiefling after a concept instead of a family name; in the other 60% of cases it appears combined with, or replaced by, an infernal-sounding name from 67 options.
Because the function always produces two fields: the name (1 of 92 options) and the title (1 of 29 options like Lich, Wraith, Tomb Warden), joined as 'The Wraith'; if the clan field is on, an Order (1 of 12) is added too, making undead the only one of the 9 races where the displayed result can combine up to 3 independent rolls.
