Create authentic names for 9 fantasy races, elves, dwarves, orcs, halflings, tieflings, and more.
In RPGs and fantasy fiction, a character's name immediately communicates their racial origin. This tool uses distinct phonological systems for each of the 9 races, each with its own morpheme bank: elves have long melodious names; dwarves use hard consonants and consonant clusters; orcs favor guttural and aggressive sounds; halflings have warm, endearing diminutives; gnomes have inventive names; tieflings blend infernal names with virtues and vices; dragonborn evoke the Draconic language; and undead carry a dark title. Each name can be accompanied by a clan, house, guild, lineage, or order, depending on the race. Use the results for player characters, NPCs, fiction, digital games, and original worldbuilding.
Each race gets its own morpheme bank. Elves use long, vowel-rich, melodious names (Aelindra, Thalion); dwarves, short and hard syllables (Thorin, Balin); orcs, guttural and harsh sounds with plenty of R and K (Grushak, Morgrak). That makes the racial origin recognizable from the sound alone.
The other races follow the same logic: halflings have warm names with countryside surnames (Baggins, Greenhand); gnomes, inventive and noisy names; tieflings blend infernal names with virtues/vices (Ambition, Malice); dragonborn evoke the Draconic Language; undead carry a dark title.
With 'Show clan/family' on, an elf can become 'Elenwe Silvermoon', a personal name plus a nature-flavored clan. A dwarf becomes 'Thorin Ironhammer', with a clan tied to craft and ore; an orc, 'Grushak, Skullcrusher Clan'.
Each race uses a different collective: house (humans), family (halflings), guild (gnomes), lineage (tieflings), order (undead). Choose the race and toggle the clan when you want a full name with heritage.
These names work for player characters and NPCs in any fantasy RPG, for fiction, digital games, and original worldbuilding. Generating several names of the same race is a fast way to populate a village or an army with cultural coherence.
The per-race bank is extensive, but the names are invented, search before publishing or using one as a username, and adjust pronunciation and spelling to personalize without breaking the race's sound.
