Pity is the count of wishes since your last 5★. Soft pity (from 74 in Genshin) is when the 5★ chance starts rising a lot each wish. Hard pity (90) is the cap where a 5★ is guaranteed. The calculator accounts for all three.
See the exact chance of pulling the featured 5★ from your pity, wishes and the 50/50
In Genshin Impact, each wish has a low chance of giving a 5★ character (0.6% base rate), but from wish 74 (soft pity) that chance climbs fast every attempt, up to wish 90, where the 5★ is guaranteed (hard pity). When you get a 5★, the 50/50 decides whether it is the banner's featured character or a standard one, and if you lose the 50/50, your next 5★ is the guaranteed featured. This calculator uses that real system and sums the probability wish by wish (including the soft pity ramp and the 50/50) to tell you the exact chance of getting the featured character with the wishes you have. It is not an average: it is the full probability calculation.
Before version 5.0, losing the 50/50 meant waiting up to 90 more wishes for the featured character, with no extra help the first time it happened. Capturing Radiance changed that: it can grant the featured character even on a lost 50/50, and the more times in a row you lose, the higher the chance of that happening, up to a point where HoYoverse guarantees you won't lose that many times in a row.
HoYoverse confirmed the mechanic exists and that it does not touch your pity or the guarantees you already have, but it has never published the full formula for the percentages. Community estimates (from datamining and large samples of pulls) suggest a rising chance with each consecutive loss, but the exact numbers vary from source to source. Because of that, this calculator shows the chance without Capturing Radiance: a safe floor, since the real chance tends to be equal or better.
The weapon banner has a 5★ base rate of 0.7%, slightly higher than the character banner's 0.6%, with soft pity starting at wish 63 and guaranteed hard pity at wish 80.
Instead of the 50/50, the weapon banner uses the Epitomized Path: you pick a weapon from the list before pulling and gain one Fervent Fervor point for every 5★ that isn't the one you picked. At 2 points, meaning after two hard pities in a row without your chosen weapon, the next 5★ is guaranteed to be the weapon you marked.

Genshin Impact: 0.6% base rate, soft pity at wish 74, guaranteed hard pity at 90.
The soft pity curve follows community-estimated values from game data; the base rate and pity limits are the official ones. Use it for planning, not as a guarantee.
Since version 5.0, the Capturing Radiance mechanic can grant the featured character even on a lost 50/50, and losing the 50/50 repeatedly increases the chance of that happening. HoYoverse confirms the mechanic exists and does not affect pity or guarantees, but has not published the exact formula for the chance, and community estimates disagree with each other. Because of that, the calculation above does not include this bonus: in practice, the real chance tends to be equal to or a little higher than what is shown.
