portugal iban nib
Pick Portugal in the tool and each IBAN comes out with the complete NIB, including the two control digits at the end, in their own color. Analyze mode takes your IBAN and says whether the key matches.
Bank 0002, branch 0123, account 12345678901, key 54.
The remainder of 000201231234567890100 by 97 is 44, and 98 minus 44 gives 54.
The same account 12345678901 at another bank gives key 97.
Passes the IBAN mod 97, but the NIB does not close.
No. The IBANs are drawn with the country's correct structure and correct check digits, but no bank issued them. Because the number space is finite, one of them can coincide with an existing account by chance, which is why they must not go into payments, debits or real sign-ups. To test payment flows, use the sandbox IBANs your provider publishes.
No. The NIB has 21 digits and is the domestic part. The IBAN is PT, plus 2 check digits, plus the NIB, 25 characters long. The NIB sits after the PT and the 2 check digits.
No. The two digits depend on the whole NIB, and other values exist, such as the PT23 in the last example above.
Yes, after the PT all 23 characters are digits. A letter there already breaks the structure, even if the mod 97 was recalculated.
Fictitious test data. These IBANs are drawn at random and have a valid format, but they belong to nobody and may coincide with a real account by chance. Do not use them for payments, real sign-ups or to deceive anyone.
