Aviation Number Pronunciation (Tree, Fower, Fife, Niner)

In any aviation radio transmission, 4 of the 10 digits aren't read the way they are in everyday speech: "3" becomes "Tree", "4" becomes "Fower", "5" becomes "Fife" and "9" becomes "Niner". The change is deliberate, documented by ICAO, and exists to reduce communication errors, it isn't slang or an accent.

The logic behind each change

The official numeral pronunciation table lives in ICAO Doc 9432 ("Manual of Radiotelephony"): "Three" is read "Tree", "Four" becomes "Fower", "Five" becomes "Fife" and "Nine" becomes "Niner", the rest (Zero, One, Two, Six, Seven, Eight) keep their everyday form, just with the stressed syllable marked for clarity (e.g. "Seven" as "SEV-en"). Each of the four changes removes a sound that tends to get clipped or distorted over noisy VHF radio channels, dropping the initial "th" and the final "s" of "Three" makes "Tree" carry more robustly, for example.
"Niner" has an extra reason: in international communication, "Nine" said quickly sounds close to the German "nein" ("no"), which would be dangerous in a radio confirmation, the extra "-er" at the end resolves that ambiguity. On top of that, the digit "0" is always read "Zero", never "oh", precisely so it isn't confused with the letter O; and number sequences (frequencies, flight levels, codes) are always read digit by digit, "121.5" is "Wun Too Wun Point Fife", never "one hundred twenty-one point five".

Why are the letters A and J spelled "Alfa" and "Juliett", not "Alpha" and "Juliet"?

Those are deliberate, official ICAO spellings. "Alfa" uses an "f" instead of "ph" so speakers of languages without that convention still pronounce it correctly, and "Juliett" gets a second "t" because, in French, a single trailing "t" tends to go silent. They aren't typos, reverting them to "Alpha"/"Juliet" would defeat the alphabet's whole purpose.
