How to find a Roblox User ID: 4 ways

The ID shows up in four different places and each fits a situation: the browser, Roblox Studio, an API call and the Lookup tab of this tool, which accepts a name, a number or the profile link.

Where the number hides

In the browser, open the profile on roblox.com and read the address: the number between users/ and /profile is the User ID, as in roblox.com/users/156/profile. In this tool you can paste that whole address, in any site language, and the ID is extracted with no network call. In Roblox Studio, inside a script, Players:GetUserIdFromNameAsync("name") returns the ID of a name, the UserId property of a connected player gives that player's, and game.CreatorId brings the owner of a place when game.CreatorType is User.
Through the public API, a POST to users.roblox.com/v1/usernames/users with the body {"usernames":["builderman"],"excludeBannedUsers":false} answers with data[0].id equal to 156, plus name, displayName and hasVerifiedBadge. This is the same route the tool uses, and a browser cannot call it directly because CORS is not allowed, which is why the request goes through a server. Each Roblox route has its own limit per minute and per IP, so calls in a loop need waiting and caching.
Accounts from the first years break today's naming pattern. ID 2 is called "John Doe", with a space, and ID 16 is called "erik.cassel", with a dot. Names like these fail this tool's search by name, which accepts only letters, numbers and underscore, but searching by the number finds them normally, which is why the ID is the most reliable key.

Does the mobile app show the User ID?

Not directly. The simplest path is opening the profile in a browser and reading the number in the address, or typing the username in the Lookup tab of this tool.

Do I need to be logged in to look up the ID?

No. The routes used are public and the tool asks for no login, password or cookie. Reading private account data needs authentication, which is out of scope here.

Which method should I use inside a game?
