Choose the video and click Extract. Reading, decoding and MP3 encoding all run in your browser, in a Worker, with no upload. The file only sits in your device's memory while it is processed.
Pull the audio out of any video as MP3, WAV or M4A, with trimming and normalization. The file never leaves your browser.
The tool opens the video in your browser, unpacks the container (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and others) and decodes only the audio track, a few seconds at a time. Each piece is measured, adjusted and encoded on the spot, so a two-hour video does not need gigabytes of memory: the decoded audio is never held whole. The same pass draws the waveform and measures the loudness of the whole file (K-weighting from ITU-R BS.1770), which is what lets you trim a section by looking at the waveform and normalize just that section instantly. MP3 comes out at constant 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps from the lamejs encoder; at 192 kbps one minute takes about 1.4 MB. WAV is uncompressed 16-bit PCM (about 10 MB per minute in stereo at 44.1 kHz) with a 4 GB ceiling. M4A uses the browser's AAC encoder and only appears when one exists. Sources the MP3 format cannot represent, such as 96 kHz, are resampled to 48 kHz. 5.1 videos are mixed down to stereo, and the Mono option averages the channels. Normalization applies a single gain: it either brings integrated loudness to the target (-14 LUFS for streaming, -16 for podcasts, -23 for TV) or brings the peak to -1 dBFS; in both cases the peak never goes past -1 dBFS, and if the target does not fit the tool says so instead of distorting. The audio that ships with the video keeps its original pitch and length.
Paste the code into your HTML and the tool shows up on your page, without J-Kit's navigation and ads. It still runs in the browser of whoever visits your site.
