About this tool

The classic charades game, now with 1000+ words and app-grade features

Charades is the game where one person acts out a word using only gestures, no talking or sounds, while the rest of the group tries to guess before time runs out. This version ships a bank of over 1000 words spread across 16 categories, from the classic animals, objects, actions, jobs, food, movies, places and sports to new additions like characters, brands, nature, technology, music, celebrations, superheroes and abstract verbs (that last one saved for players who already have the game figured out). Every word is tagged with a difficulty, easy, medium or hard, and you can filter to just one tier or play with all of them mixed together. Words are drawn with `crypto.getRandomValues` in a no-repeat "deck" system that never repeats a word until the whole category-and-difficulty combination has been exhausted, even across separate rounds, with a counter showing how many words have appeared so far. Set a number of free skips per round (three by default); after that, every "Skip" costs a point, and stringing together three hits in a row earns a streak bonus. The game plays short sound effects for a hit, a skip, a 10-second warning and the end of the round (with a mute toggle), buzzes the phone on hits and skips on supported devices, and has an optional "forehead mode": hold the phone to your forehead and tilt it to score a hit or a skip without touching the screen, the on-screen buttons keep working the whole time as the default option. At the end of the round, a recap screen shows the list of words you got right, the list of skips, that round's score, and your best streak, plus all-time records saved across matches. Everything comes with an optional team scoreboard and is saved right in the browser, suitable for all ages. Perfect for parties, the classroom, family and group activities.

How to use

Set up, draw and race the clock

  1. Pick a category, difficulty and round time (30, 60 or 90 seconds); adjust free skips, sound, vibration and forehead mode if you like, then tap "Start".
  2. The actor reads the word on screen (or feels the phone on their forehead) and mimes it with no talking; the group tries to guess.
  3. Guessed it, tap "Got it"; stuck, tap "Skip" (the first few are free, then they cost a point). At the end, see the recap with the got and skipped lists.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Every word is chosen to be easy to act out and appropriate for all audiences, including families and children. Use the "Easy" difficulty filter for an even gentler game for younger players.
