Multiply its power in kW (watts divided by 1,000) by the hours of use per day and by the days in the month. A 5,500 W shower used 30 minutes a day for 30 days uses 5.5 x 0.5 x 30 = 82.5 kWh. For fridges and air conditioners, also multiply by the duty factor, because the compressor cycles on and off.
ANEEL sets the flag monthly and publishes it on its site. The surcharge amounts per 100 kWh are on the Tariff Flags page.
It is charged separately, per kWh consumed, and goes into the tax base. In practice it adds to the final amount with the same ICMS and PIS/COFINS factor as the tariff.
The first 80 kWh of energy are free. The calculator assumes the surcharge applies only to the paid kWh, a simplification: check how your utility shows it on the invoice.

On the invoice, look for the item table with "Tarifa" and TE/TUSD per kWh, or the "Tarifa sem tributos" / "Tarifa com tributos" field. Add TE and TUSD if they are listed separately. Utility tariffs checked in 10/2026.
Model powers and hours are typical values, in the order of magnitude of efficiency labels (Procel/Inmetro) and datasheets. Edit them with the data from your appliance's label.
