FIPE Code and Reference Table
The FIPE table shows up in financing, insurance, and used-car negotiations, but the number it shows is not an appraisal of your specific car. This page explains what the FIPE code identifies, why the table changes every month, and what the real limit of that reference price is, before you look up a vehicle in the tool, which always fetches the current month.
The FIPE code identifies the exact brand, model, year, and engine combination; the price itself changes with every month published.
The table is republished every month, so looking up the same code later comes back with a new reference month.
The lookup only accepts three vehicle types (cars, motorcycles, trucks), each with its own brand and model list; switching the type changes the whole list.
It is the identifier of a specific vehicle version within the table, in a six-digit format plus a check digit (000000-0). It distinguishes models, years and combinations that could be ambiguous from the text description alone, so it points exactly to the version you looked up.
Not necessarily: the table measures the average negotiated price for that model and year on the market, a starting point for negotiation, not an appraisal of your specific car, which can be worth more or less depending on condition, mileage, and history.
Because the table is republished monthly by Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas from market research, and the referenceMonth field changes with every edition, even when the vehicle's code stays the same.
It's a check digit the table appends to the 6-digit sequential code for the brand, model, and year combination; it doesn't indicate the vehicle type, since cars and motorcycles both use varied digits in that position.
Because the lookup follows a cascade: each level (type, brand, model, year) depends on the previous choice to filter the next set of options, until it reaches the reference price for the exact vehicle selected.
The lookup runs on our server, which only forwards make, model and year to the public FIPE table source. Nothing is tied to your profile and no personal data is requested.
