Brazil long weekends 2026 Monday or Friday holidays
A long weekend is a holiday that falls on a Monday or Friday: it joins the weekend for 3 days off in a row without spending any leave. 2026 is a good year for that, with seven national long weekends.
Taking Friday, Sep 4, makes it a 4-day break (Friday to Monday).
With Friday, Oct 30, the break runs from Oct 30 to Nov 2.
National since 2024; in 2027 it falls on a Saturday and gives no time off.
With 4 leave days from Dec 28 to 31 the break reaches New Year.
It means taking leave on the working days between a holiday and the weekend to build a longer break. If the holiday falls on a Thursday, taking Friday gives 4 days in a row (Thursday to Sunday) for just 1 day of leave.
Seven: Good Friday, May 1, September 7, October 12, November 2, November 20 and December 25. Adding Carnival (optional Monday and Tuesday) gives one more 4-day break, from Saturday to Tuesday.
Because the weekday of each fixed date moves forward by one a year (two in leap years). In 2027, May 1, November 20 and December 25 fall on a Saturday and 3 holidays fall on a Tuesday, which asks for a bridge instead of giving a long weekend.
The same rule applies: a state holiday on a Monday or Friday makes a long weekend for people in that state. Pick the state in the tool to see its dates with the classification. Municipal holidays are not included.
Municipal holidays and movable state holidays are not included. Check your city's and your employer's calendar.
In 2026 the chosen calendar has 10 holidays: 9 fall on Monday to Friday and 1 is lost to the weekend.
