Saturday, Sunday, a Monday of leave and the Tuesday holiday.
how to bridge holidays and gain days off
Bridging means taking leave on the working days between a holiday and the weekend. The cost depends only on the holiday's weekday. The tool calculates each bridge's efficiency and builds a plan with the leave days you have.
Saturday, Sunday, a Monday of leave and the Tuesday holiday.
Thursday holiday, Friday of leave and the weekend.
Wednesday is the costliest: 2 leave days for 5 days off.
Links the Wednesday to the weekend and to Black Awareness Day, which in 2028 falls on a Monday (Nov 20).
It means taking leave on the working days between a holiday and the weekend to build a longer break. If the holiday falls on a Thursday, taking Friday gives 4 days in a row (Thursday to Sunday) for just 1 day of leave.
The 1-day ones, which give 4 in a row (efficiency 4): a Tuesday or Thursday holiday with the Monday or Friday. Next come the 2-day ones for a Wednesday holiday (5 days, efficiency 2.5).
Only if you want one more day: a Friday holiday already gives 3 days in a row. Taking the Thursday gives 4. The tool shows that option but ranks it below Tuesday and Thursday bridges, which create a break that did not exist.
You can agree it with HR, but the CLT counts vacation in calendar days and forbids starting it in the two days before a holiday or weekly rest day (art. 134, par. 3). For 1 or 2 day bridges, the usual route is time off in lieu, an allowance day or a day off.
Municipal holidays and movable state holidays are not included. Check your city's and your employer's calendar.
In 2026 the chosen calendar has 10 holidays: 9 fall on Monday to Friday and 1 is lost to the weekend.
