Factor 0.85; saves 30.
percent discount, calculate price after discount
A percentage discount takes a slice off the price: 15% off 200 leaves 170, because 200 × 0.85 = 170. The calculator opens in the "decrease" mode, with 200 and 15% already filled in, and shows the final price, the amount saved (30) and the factor used, 0.85.
Factor 0.85; saves 30.
Factor 0.80; saves 16.
Factor 0.70; saves 104.97.
Factor 0.875; saves 150.
Total factor 0.72, not 0.70.
Start with 10%, which is the value divided by 10, and build the rest from it: 1% is dividing by 100, 5% is half of 10%, 20% is double 10%, 25% is dividing by 4 and 50% is dividing by 2. For 15% of 80, take 10% (8) plus 5% (4), which is 12. For 35% of 200, add 30% (60) and 5% (10), which is 70. If the numbers are awkward, swap the order: 8% of 50 equals 50% of 8, which is 4.
Multiply the price by 0.70. For 349.90, that gives 244.93. Or work out 30% of the price (104.97) and subtract: 349.90 − 104.97 = 244.93. The two calculations are equivalent.
No: they give 28%. The second applies to the already reduced price (250 becomes 200 and then 180). The calculator shows the difference in the successive mode.
Compare the final price, not the percentage. A 349.90 item at 30% comes to 244.93; a 279.90 one at 15% comes to 237.92, which is cheaper.
Apply a discount and see the final price and the savings.
Final = Y × (1 − X ÷ 100)
Step by step200 × 15% = 200 × 0.15 = 30200 − 30 = 170200 × (1 − 15 ÷ 100) = 200 × 0.85 = 170Calculations run in your browser. No data is sent to a server.
