minecraft commands for beginners
The list below opens on the 20 most used commands, with /gamemode already open. For a first day, ten of them solve almost everything: switching modes, changing time and weather, going somewhere, getting items and adjusting world rules.
Level 2.
A game-defined shortcut.
Accepts a duration: /weather clear 600s.
To go back, use easy, normal or hard.
Same format as F3.
One item per line.
The level starts at 0.
Default false.
No target or coordinate.
Use the coordinates from the reply with /tp.
Type /gamemode creative in chat. For another player, add the name or a selector: /gamemode creative Steve or /gamemode creative @a. The four modes are survival, creative, adventure and spectator, spelled out: Java does not accept the s, c and a abbreviations. The command needs level 2, so in a local world the game must have cheats on.
Start with /gamemode creative and /time set day in a test world with cheats on. They are short lines with no target, and the result shows up at once, which helps you see what each part of the line does.
No. The list covers Java Edition 26.1, and new commands, gamerule names and arguments change between versions. Bedrock Edition has its own syntax and is not covered here.
@s is you, @a is every player and @p is the nearest player. They are target selectors and appear after the command name, as in /effect give @a minecraft:speed 60.
Some can: /fill and /clone overwrite blocks with no undo, and /kill @e removes entities. Test in a copy of the world, and turn keep_inventory on before playing with anything that can get you killed.
Minecraft Java Edition 26.1. Bedrock has its own syntax and is not in this list.
