how to make a minecraft skin
The editor opens with a gray model ready to paint. Pick the model, paint on the 3D character or the flat map and download the PNG when you finish. The route below follows the order that tends to give the cleanest skin.
An 8x8 pixel square: the whole room for the face.
Same face as the head, 32 pixels to the right.
8 pixels wide by 12 tall.
4x12 pixels. The left leg is at x 20-23, y 52-63.
The two layers add up to 3264 pixels, about 80% of the image; the rest is not read by the game.
Pick the model (Steve or Alex), choose a color and paint on the 3D model or the 2D map. Start with the big areas using the bucket, then do the face, clothes and details with the pencil and use mirror so both sides match. Paint hair and accessories on the outer layer. When you are done, download the PNG and upload it in the launcher.
No. The editor runs in the browser with no sign-up and nothing to install. You only need a Java account to upload the PNG in the launcher afterwards.
With the big color areas, using the bucket. Details come after, and the outer layer comes last. Using two or three shades per color already gives depth without clutter.
Yes. Ctrl+Z undoes the last stroke and Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes it. Each pencil stroke and each bucket use is one step, up to 100 steps.
One finger paints on the model. Two fingers rotate and zoom. With a mouse, click and drag to paint; right button or Shift rotates.
The base layer is always opaque in the game, so the eraser restores the template gray.
