About social media image sizes

Sizes change, so every number here says where it came from.

Social networks change sizes without notice. The LinkedIn company page cover was once 1128x191, then 4200x700, and the official page now cites 1512x256. The Instagram profile grid stopped being square and moved to 3:4 thumbnails in 2025. That is why every format in the guide carries an Official badge, when the number is on the platform's own help page or documentation, or a Community badge, when it comes from third-party guides or common practice, always with the source link and the date it was last checked. What Instagram Help actually says: feed photos 320 to 1080 pixels wide with a ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5. So 1080x1350 (4:5) is the tallest portrait accepted and 1080x566 the widest landscape. Stories use 9:16 (1080x1920) and Meta advises leaving roughly 14% of the top and 20% of the bottom free of text and logos; for Reels the free band at the bottom rises to 35%. On YouTube, Help asks for 16:9 thumbnails at least 640 pixels wide (citing 3840x2160) and the channel banner at 2560x1440, with a 1235x338 pixel safe area. Pinterest recommends 2:3 (1000x1500). Facebook documents 1200x630 for links, and LinkedIn 1584x396 for the profile background photo and 400x400 for the profile photo. The adjuster handles the repetitive work: pick one photo and several formats and it produces each file named like trip-instagram-1080x1350.jpg. In Cover mode the format is filled completely and the excess cropped, and you drag the focal point to protect a face or a product. In Contain mode the whole image shows, with a blurred, solid or transparent fill in the bars, and it never stretches. Before generating, the tool shows which formats your photo already fits, which need a crop (and how much of the image is lost) and which would force enlarging a small image. Everything runs in the browser. The photo is not uploaded, the camera EXIF orientation is respected, and files are generated one at a time to save memory. Platforms also recompress uploads, so the best path is to upload at the indicated size, at the highest quality the file weight limit allows.

How to use

Look up the size or let the tool prepare your files.

In the guide, search by platform, format or ratio (for example story, 1080x1920 or cover) and copy the size. Turn on safe zones to see where the interface covers the image.
To prepare your photo, tap Use in adjuster on the formats you want, or open the Fit my image tab, drop the photo and pick the formats. The tool shows how much crop each format needs.
Choose Cover or Contain, drag the focal point, set format and quality and tap Generate. Download each file or all of them in a ZIP.

What is the ideal image size for the Instagram feed?
