how to find your phone's IMEI and check it
Insurance, warranty, trade-in, device registration and block checks all ask for the IMEI, and a wrong digit in the typing makes the request fail. Here is where to find the number and how to check it in seconds before sending.
Some labels print the IMEI split into groups.
The validator completes the number, but check the original to be sure.
Swapping 1 and 8 changes the sum, and Luhn flags it.
The second is an illustrative example: validate each IMEI separately.
Per 3GPP TS 23.003, they are 8 digits of TAC, 6 of serial number and 1 Luhn check digit. The first 2 digits of the TAC identify the body that allocated it, and the next 6 identify the model. The serial number is assigned by the manufacturer within the TAC.
On most devices yes, but not all. If it does not work, use Settings, the label on the box or the one printed on the device.
It depends on the request: some ask only for the first, and a block request may require all of them. Validate each one and report both when in doubt.
No. The IMEI identifies the device, not the SIM, and is written by the manufacturer. Swapping the SIM, the phone number or the carrier does not change it.

Digits in alternating positions are doubled starting next to the last one, and doubles above 9 lose 9. The total must be a multiple of 10.
