minecraft shield recipe
Six planks and a piece of iron: the recipe is short, but the log count hides a leftover almost nobody expects. The tool below opens on the shield and shows the grid and the raw cost.
On top, plank, iron and plank; in the middle, three planks; below, one lone plank in the center. Both bottom corners stay empty.
The 2 logs become 8 planks and 6 get used, so 2 are left. The raw iron goes through 1 smelt, which takes 1 coal.
24 planks come from exactly 6 logs, and the 4 raw iron fit in 1 coal. Two shields already come out even: 12 planks are 3 logs.
At 5 emeralds, the villager saves you the wood and the iron. You can check the other prices in the villager trades tool.
It adds up what each item needs across all branches and only then rounds the number of crafts up. One log makes 4 planks; if you need 5, that is 2 logs and 3 planks left over. Leftovers show on the Materials tab and are reused by other items on your list before more raw material is requested.
It takes 6 planks and 1 iron ingot. In logs that is 2, and 2 planks are left after crafting.
Yes, in this tool the recipe accepts planks of any wood; the grid only shows oak as the default. Slabs and loose logs do not fit the grid, though.
The level 3 armorer sells it for 5 emeralds, with 12 uses. The Java 26.1 data lists no other villager selling the shield.
Any even number. Two shields take 12 planks, exactly 3 logs; four take 24, exactly 6. A single shield leaves 2 planks over.
